Why Choose OraBell Dental Implant Centers for Gum Disease Treatment?

Scaling & Root Planing

When advanced gum disease develops, it attacks not just the gum tissue visible in your smile, but the underlying structures that work to keep teeth in place. Scaling works to remove calcified forms of plaque from both above and below the gum line, which is why regular brushing is not enough to manage gum disease on its own. Additionally, we perform root planing to promote reattachment of the gums to the roots of teeth.

Antibiotic Therapy

Following your initial gum therapy, which often takes multiple appointments to complete, we apply a small amount of antibiotics to the gum pockets that have formed as a result of your gum disease. We use amoxicillin for treatment, which is a common antibiotic designed to promote healing of the gum tissue. Since gum disease is technically an infection, amoxicillin is a highly effective way to reduce the prevalence of symptoms and help restore your oral health.

Gum Grafting

In other cases, gum tissue may be too damaged to save if the infection has developed into the advanced stages. In order to replace this gum tissue, our in-house periodontist can perform gum grafting. This treatment is similar to bone grafting, except instead of using bone material, gum tissue is taken from other parts of the body (typically the roof of the mouth) and is grafted onto areas where it’s needed. This works to cover areas of teeth that have become exposed due to infection.

Sinus Lifts

Also known as a sinus augmentation, a sinus lift is a type of oral surgery that provides additional bone to the upper jaw. It specifically targets the space between your molars and your premolars. This is also the space between your jaw and maxillary sinuses, which exist on both sides of your nose. While this treatment may be performed in order to give more room for dental implants to integrate, it’s also used when bone tissue has broken down due to gum disease.

Ridge Augmentations

When a tooth is lost, the bone and gum tissue inside the socket can begin to break down if socket preservation is not performed. With ridge augmentation, which is a routine periodontal procedure, we can correct indentations that form within the gum and jaw bone. This improves the shape and size of the alveolar ridge so that you can receive a dental prosthesis, such as a denture. We’ll make sure to explain your treatment in more detail beforehand so you know exactly what to expect.
